Simply Happiness

"Hppiness is simple, when we are grateful and feeling acceptance with everything we have, happiness will follow and comes into our heart." ~ Tami.

As I'm living abroad, I don't really often to enjoy some typical foods from my country unless I make it by myself or go to Indonesian restaurant (if there is any). Short of ingredients are the main things that literally makings Indonesian foods a little bit challenge in here, but I found few restaurants offered some dishes with similar tastes to Indonesian foods.

Few days ago I went to Cantonese restaurant for lunch. After checking the menus I order one interesting and humble dish which is sautéed Eggplants with  salty fish. I started to order the dish; my mind started wandering around imagining the delish of the saltiness coming from the fish combined  with eggplants and rice (slurp...mouth watering !).

Right after all the foods arrived on my table I just couldn't wait to dig it up straight away but I have to wait for minutes because the eggplants and salty fish served in the hot plate was extremely hot.

My Foods comes with free hot tea and tissue, I also ordered  fresh cucumber salad mashed with chili and garlic that leave my mouth feeling fresh. The sautéed eggplants with salty fish was tasty and delicious, however I would prefer to have some chilies on it. The food price was affordable, the restaurant was clean, and I can say overall was good.

It will definitely one of my favorite places to eat, I went home happily, the tasted of the salty fish and eggplants still in my mind. And I came back another day just for this delicious salty fish that reminded me of my Mom's foods and home.

Weird Fruit.

Today I went to get some vegetables and fruits. There are many traditional markets around my apartment it takes 7 minutes by walking. I like visit traditional markets here in Chongqing, they have many kinds of fresh vegetables, fruits, and spices, however is so difficult to find Indonesian or South Asia spices in here such as Galangal, Lemongrass, kafir lime leaf and etc. When I'm lucky enough sometimes I can find some herbs at the supermarket that selling exports food products, and also I can actually ask my Chinese friends to help me to buy spices like Galangal through online.

As today was raining, I decided to go to supermarket just beside the traditional market to buy some vegetables and some fruits. Two days ago I saw some weird fruit in the supermarket, it has yellow and some green color (probably yellow color is the ripe one), it has spike just look like Sea Cucumber. I'm curious how does it tastes ?? and I bought one of it. 1 piece of this fruit cost ¥13 or about $2 or 25.000 rupiah (expensive! For small fruit that I never been tasted) and I bought one anyway.

As I arrived home, I started to Google it and found it!. This weird fruit called Kiwano; strange Melon and Cucumber relatives, originally from New Zealand (no wonder it's expensive). Finally my curiosity got the best of me and I tasted it... its a bit sour no sweet at all (hope I wasn't lucky enough picking up the unsweet one) its just  similar to Cucumber with  many seeds inside and the texture is a bit mushy, more or less the texture just like passionfruits with more water in it.  After all it wasn't bad to tasted it and I kept half in my refrigerator and will enjoy it tomorrow after workout.

Chongqing Hotpot 🌶

Chongqing is one of the biggest cities in China, this city is a fascinating place for cultural heritage and natural wonders. Chongqing is unique city surrounded by the mountains and where confluence of Yangtze river and Jialing river are.

Things you should try when you are in Chongqing is The Chongqing Foods, One of the foods is Chongqing Hotpot, the tastes of the hot pot for me tremendously spicy, its mix of Sichuan pepper, chilies and herbs. The tasted of original Chongqing Hotpot broth is spicy with different levels of spiciness.

The hot pot items could be ducks intestines, chickens intestines, tripe, blood of ducks or chickens, vegetables, mushrooms, fish, seafood, noodles, etc. We can choose the hot pot items and the hot pot sauce as we like. In the traditional restaurant they normally provides sesame oils, copped garlic, copped coriander leafs, salt and chili flakes, msg (some people might be like it), pickles also vinegar. Mostly hot pot place also provides tea or water for free, and if you order a bowl of rice it will be additional charges.

I found out something interesting a way of how to eat Hotpot that need to have a bowl of rice. Tap the foods items up (such as vegetables, meet, etc.) on the rice before eating it. The purpose is to remove the excess oils on the foods, but if you like to eat the rice too, you can do so.

I'm  pretty much like spicy foods but Chongqing spicy is different, the Sichuan pepper will leave numbness on the tongue once you bite it, and yet the smells of the spices uplifted my appetites and my moods too!. I just couldn’t  get enough of Chongqing Hotpot, very delicious and spicy. If you are not a big fan of spicy foods, you can ask half pot of spicy broth and other half without spicy.

It's more fun to enjoy the Chongqing hot pot with friends or family, don't forget to invite your local friends that can explains you more. A good tips for those who doesn't like spicy but wanted to try hot pot, always have some sweet fruits or juice on the side, in case you bite some chili or Sichuan pepper. The more the merrier!
